WASHBURN, Maine — The August Festival Committee has named Kim and Stephanie Silver of Wade the king and queen for 2019.
This year’s festival takes place Aug. 14-18.
Kim grew up on the family farm, son of Archie Silver, who was town treasurer and tax collector. Stephanie grew up in Washburn, the daughter of Athil Clayton Jr. and granddaughter of Athil Sr., a bus driver and janitor in the school system for many years.
Together, Kim and Stephanie farmed the family farm for 13 years, and operated Silver Supply hardware store on Hines St. for five years. They are devoted to their six children and three grandchildren, who fondly refer to them as Mimi and Gramp.
For 14 years they were foster parents, which brought them much joy and great memories.
Kim was employed as a potato inspector, and more recently retired from the University Research Farm in Presque Isle after 23 years of service. Stephanie worked for local farmers when not at the store, fostering, or farming at home.
Her hobbies include reading, walking, and keeping in touch with family. Her husband enjoys the outdoors, being around the farm or participating in seasonal activities. Both enjoy riding the back roads.
The family has a rich heritage at Dunntown Advent Christian Church, where Uncle Read Blackstone pastored and his sister-in-law, Kim’s grandmother, played the piano.
The Silvers said they are honored to represent the town of Wade as this year’s festival king and queen.
The August Festival Committee will offer shuttle service from parking areas around the festival. Due to expected increase in attendance and walking distances a courtesy shuttle will travel the perimeter of the the festival on Saturday. Visitors should look for signage that designates parking sites on the shuttle route.
