Presque Isle, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls women’s and men’s teams played their home openers in Presque Isle on Saturday, Sept. 14, against their North Atlantic Conference opponent, the University of Maine at Farmington.

The Lady Owls’ match went into double overtime, which ended in a 0-0 tie.

The weather had no effect on UMPI goalie Savannah Rodriguez, who had 17 saves on the game. The Presque Isle local freshman had support from her teammates defensively, keeping the reigning NAC champions scoreless on the game.

Despite the Owls dealing with multiple starters missing time in the game due to injuries, UMPI fought hard throughout the double OT game.

The Beavers had an impressive defensive performance, holding the Owls to only one shot on goal.

In men’s soccer action, the match vs. UMF ended with a 4-0 loss for the Owls.

The Owls and Beavers played a back-and-forth defensive game during the first half. UMF was able to put one in the back of the net, just 20 seconds before the first half time expired. Andrew Longhurst scored the unassisted goal. Longhurst added one more early on in the 53rd minute of the game.

The Beavers quickly added another goal by Nick Marshall in the 54th minute. The Owls and Beavers continued to battle on the defensive end. Aric Belanger scored the Beavers’ final goal at the 77-minute mark.

The Beavers’ defense held the Owls to four shot attempts, while the Owls goalie, Keith Mank, a freshman from Raymond, put on a great performance on the game, despite UMF’s impressive second half. Mank had seven saves on the game. The Owls ended the game with four shots on goal.
