TOWNSHIP 14 RANGE 6 — A Winterville Plantation man escaped serious injury on Sept. 21 after the vehicle he was driving nearly struck a moose in an unorganized territory in Aroostook County.

Aroostook County Sheriff Shawn Gillen said in a written statement Sept. 21 that the crash happened at approximately 12:15 p.m.

Gillen said that the Sheriff’s Office was contacted by OnStar, an onboard security and safety feature that was built into the 2013 GMC Sierra owned by James Camp Jr, 36, of Winterville Plantation.

Police said that Camp was northbound on Route 11 in the area of Soucy Hill when a moose entered the roadway. Camp avoided the moose but lost control of the pickup and went off the road. He veered down an embankment and crashed into the trees.

Gillen said that Camp complained of minor pain, but did not require medical attention. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Saucier’s Towing of Eagle Lake due to disabling damage.
