PRESQUE ISLE, Mane — The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls women’s soccer team advanced to a 7-4-2 regular season record after a 2-0 win over the Fisher College Falcons of Boston, Massachusetts, while the men’s team lost 3-2 when the Owls hosted the Falcons at Park Field on Oct. 20.

UMPI Director of Sports Information Mark Knight said the UMPI women were in control of the match from the start putting up eight shots on goal in the first half seven of which were on goal, including the goal scored by Hannah Nadeau (sophomore, Madawask). Her goal was assisted by Marissa Valdivia Reagle (junior, Seattle).

The Owls continued to pressure the net, putting another eight shots on goal in the second half, including another goal, this time by Reagle and assisted by Alexis Rodriguez (freshman, Caribou), off a corner kick.

UMPI finished the shut-out game behind the team’s defense, led by Savannah Rodriguez (freshman, Presque Isle) in goal, finishing the game with four saves.

For the men, Fisher came out to an early lead, off a goal in the 11th minute and another in the 18th minute, giving them a 2-0 lead early in the first half. Fisher maintained control of the first half until a through ball by the Owls’ Paul Kaplan (junior, Embden) led Hunter Wardwell (freshman, Mars Hill) perfectly, as he buried it in the back of the net just before the half expired.

The Falcons came out strong once again, but this time so did the Owls as the physical game continued to go back and forth. Fisher was able to push their lead back up to two on a goal in the 52nd minute. UMPI kept up the pressure. Wardwell outran the defense once again off another through ball, this time from Jacob Worthley (junior, Houlton), allowing him to earn his second goal of the game.

UMPI was unable to get another goal through before time expired and Fisher took home the 3-2 win. This brings UMPI to a 6-7 record, and still a 1-5 conference record; while Fisher advances to 7-6-2, still 0-1 in their conference.
