HOULTON, Maine — Success finally arrived for the Black Hawk hockey program as the team skated to a 4-0 victory over the Capital River Hawks Dec. 28 at the John Millar Civic Center.

“The team has been playing good hockey the last three games and had been a bit snake-bitten when it comes to getting a win,” coach Joel Trickey said. “Their hard work in practice finally paid off with a win today.”

Noah Reynolds scored a pair of goals and added an assist to lead the team. Jason Collett and Kurtis Reynolds also had one goal each, with Gavin Vining notching two assists and Jed Gilpatrick had one.

Elijah Matheson was a perfect 11-for-11 on saves in goal for the Black Hawks.

“Elijah was a standout in goal today and deserved to get the shutout,” coach Trickey said. “We played solid defense in front of him and he came up with several key saves to keep the opposition off the scoreboard.”

The Black Hawks peppered Capital Region’s goalie Adrian O’Connell, who finished with eight saves on 17 shots on goal.

Houlton-Hodgdon-Southern Aroostook also did a good job on its power plays during the game.

“Our power play is coming together too,” the coach said. “They showed a lot of patience today and it paid off. Overall we’re coming together as a team and we look forward to improving and winning on a regular basis in the future.”
