Winter‌ ‌weather‌ ‌advisory‌ ‌in‌ ‌effect‌ ‌until‌ ‌Friday‌ ‌evening,‌ ‌slippery‌ ‌roads‌ ‌expected‌

The‌ ‌National‌ ‌Weather‌ ‌Service‌ ‌in‌ ‌Caribou‌ ‌has‌ ‌issued‌ ‌a‌ ‌winter‌ ‌weather‌ ‌advisory‌ ‌for‌ northeast‌ ‌Aroostook‌ ‌County,‌ ‌including‌ ‌Presque‌ ‌Isle,‌ ‌Caribou,‌ ‌Van‌ ‌Buren,‌ ‌Mars‌ ‌Hill‌ ‌and‌ ‌surrounding‌ ‌areas.‌ ‌It‌ ‌is‌ ‌in‌ ‌effect‌ ‌until‌ ‌8‌ ‌p.m.‌ ‌Friday.‌ 
 
Snow‌ ‌accumulation‌ ‌of‌ ‌two‌ ‌to‌ ‌five‌ ‌inches‌ ‌is‌ ‌expected‌ ‌throughout‌ ‌all‌ ‌areas,‌ ‌with‌ anticipated‌ ‌sleet‌ ‌accumulation‌ ‌of‌ around‌ ‌one‌ ‌quarter‌ ‌of‌ ‌an‌ ‌inch.‌ ‌NWS‌ ‌expects‌ ‌the‌ ‌region‌ ‌to‌ ‌also‌ ‌receive‌ ‌a‌ ‌light‌ ‌glaze‌ ‌of‌ ‌ice‌ ‌accumulation‌ ‌on‌ ‌area‌ ‌roads.‌ 
 
The‌ ‌advisory‌ ‌predicts‌ ‌wind‌ ‌speeds‌ ‌of‌ ‌up‌ ‌to‌ ‌35‌ ‌miles‌ ‌per‌ ‌hour,‌ ‌with‌ ‌power‌ ‌outages‌ possible.‌ ‌Northern‌ ‌and‌ ‌high‌ ‌terrain‌ areas‌ ‌will‌ ‌receive‌ ‌the‌ ‌highest‌ ‌amount‌ ‌of‌ ‌snow,‌ ‌but‌ ‌snowfall‌ ‌is‌ ‌expected‌ ‌to‌ ‌make‌ ‌the‌ ‌evening‌ ‌commute‌ ‌difficult‌ ‌for‌  anyone‌ ‌travelling.‌  
 
The‌ ‌National‌ ‌Weather‌ ‌Service‌ ‌recommends‌ ‌that‌ ‌people‌ ‌use‌ ‌caution‌ ‌while‌ ‌driving‌ ‌on‌ ‌the‌ roads‌ ‌and‌ ‌to‌ ‌anticipate‌ ‌slippery‌ ‌conditions‌ ‌and‌ ‌limited‌ ‌visibility.‌ 
 
Numerous‌ ‌school‌ ‌systems‌ ‌throughout‌ ‌Aroostook‌ ‌County,‌ ‌including‌ ‌those‌ ‌in‌ ‌Presque‌ Isle,‌ ‌Fort‌ ‌Fairfield,‌ ‌Washburn,‌ ‌Mars‌ ‌Hill,‌ ‌Caribou,‌ ‌Woodland,‌ ‌Limestone,‌ ‌Van‌ ‌Buren,‌ ‌Fort‌ ‌Kent,‌ ‌Frenchville‌ ‌and‌ ‌Madawaska‌ ‌have‌ ‌announced‌ ‌plans‌ ‌to‌ dismiss‌ ‌students‌ ‌by‌ ‌noon‌ ‌today.‌ 
 
The‌ ‌latest‌ ‌snowfall‌ ‌will‌ ‌push‌ ‌Aroostook‌ ‌County‌ ‌above‌ ‌the‌ ‌current‌ ‌snowfall‌ ‌total‌ ‌of‌ ‌just‌ over‌ ‌100‌ ‌inches‌ ‌of‌ ‌snow.‌
