HODGDON, Maine — Houlton-Hodgdon Dollars for Scholars has announced that Olivia Morris of Hodgdon Middle-High School has received an A. Cressy Morrison Scholarship from Scholarship America.

Morris was awarded a $1,000 scholarship for her college education, renewable for an additional three years totaling $10,000. Only two students from Dollars for Scholars in the state were chosen to receive this scholarship based on their demonstrated ambition and self-drive as evidenced through their goals and achievements in school, community, and workplace activities.

During the past four years in high school, Morris stepped into the high school already invested in her academics. She took a full load of college prep classes, and then added to those Honors, AP, dual enrollment and early college courses.

She has accrued 36 college credits before her high school graduation; and is a proud member of Hodgdon’s Chapter of the National Honor Society. She has also participated in several leadership activities throughout high school, including being a student member of the GEAR UP College Access Team Board of Directors.

Morris credits much of her success in both academics and in leadership from the four years she spent in JMG. She was the Career Association President for two years — challenging both herself and others to learn more about themselves, their capabilities and to be the best version of themselves.

She plans to attend Southern Maine Community College in the fall to pursue a degree in marine science.

“As the largest private scholarship organization, we are 100 percent focused on student success,” said Robert C. Ballard, president and CEO of Scholarship America. “We are honored to be able to award such an outstanding student with this scholarship. Olivia is one of two outstanding students who excel at school, work and community, and were selected in the state of Maine. They embody the college dreams and career aspirations that Scholarship America and Dollars for Scholars are all about.”
