From the Bunkers – Week of August 26, 2020

NEW LIMERICK, Maine — The weather has finally broken. A few days in the seventies and even a little rain. Boy don’t we need it. The course is soaking up the liquid sunshine and is looking for more. Overall, the golf course is looking pretty good. A couple greens will be worked on this week. And there are a lot of players on the golf course. Thank you.

Last weekend we held our Club Championship/Presidents Cup Tournament. There were 45 golfers in three men’s flights, a ladies’ and a junior flight and this year a junior-junior for those under 12.

The leader in the clubhouse after the first day was 16-year-old Collin Moody, who shot a great 3-under par 69. The second day brought a charge from back in the pack by Mike Fleming with a 71, but he came up a little short. Our Club Champion for 2020 is Moody.

The Ladies Champion is Misty Marino, the Junior Champ is Garret Harvey and the Junior Junior Champ is Patrick Marino. The Men’s Presidents Cup Champ is Bob Gray and Pam Mailman is the Ladies Presidents Cup Champ. Congrats to all the winners.

Coming in two weeks will be the annual Babe Caron Memorial Tournament. The tournament is full and is going to be an exciting weekend.

On Sept. 13 we will host our ever popular Cross Country Par Three tournament, where four-person teams compete for nine holes from some unique tees. Sign up in the clubhouse as soon as the list goes up.

A two person scramble is coming on Saturday, Sept. 26, the details of which will be available soon.

The Men’s Twilight League has entered into the playoffs with the sweet 16 pared down to eight teams.

The Lakeside Restaurant has been serving delicious meals all summer. Eat in or order for take out to enjoy at home. Call Aaron at 805-5250 to place your order or to reserve your table. Open Wednesday thru Saturday, 4:30- 8:30, and Sunday from 10:30- 2:30 for brunch.

As we play out the rest of summer, we will be heading into some of the best weather of the year. And hopefully it will stretch into October.

Please continue to repair your ball marks on the greens as part of a golfer’s responsibility. With the dry weather we have seen, please drive power carts on carts paths as much as possible. I appreciate your help and I will see you out on the course.
