HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Higher Education Center is ready to begin its Fall 2020 semester with University of Maine at Presque Isle and University of Maine at Augusta classes starting on Monday, Aug. 31.

Following University of Maine System (UMS) guidelines, staff have implemented Safe Return protocols throughout the building, to observe the social distance requirements. Anyone entering the building must also wear a UMS-approved face covering.

“We are so anxious to have new and returning students in the building again” said Director Tracy Rockwell. “At the same time, we want everyone to feel safe and comfortable. We may not be able to participate in some of the traditional first week events, like the open coffee bar, but we certainly have a little surprise gift for our active University students.”

If interested in registering for a course, contact Jean Henderson, Professional Academic Advisor,

at jean.henderson@maine.edu. She can assist with answering questions, determine if a course is

still available, and discuss possible scholarship opportunities.

“We have assisted several students over the last few weeks who changed their plans of going outside of Aroostook County for this Fall semester and decided to stay local”, said Henderson. The Houlton Higher Education Center has been providing educational opportunities to the people

of southern Aroostook County, northern Penobscot County, eastern Washington County, western

New Brunswick, Canada, and beyond since 2001.
