HOULTON, Maine — The Houlton Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor two children’s activities in December.

The first activity is a “Children’s Curbside Holiday Cheer” event that will be held Saturday, Dec. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Houlton Recreation Center parking lot. Parents are asked to bring their children in their vehicles to the Rec Center and pick up a holiday cheer bag with crafts and surprise items inside to take home.

Santa will be on hand for a social distance appearance, children are not allowed out of their cars but can wave to the jolly elf. This activity is free to all participants. There is a limit of 250 bags and the event will be a first come first serve basis.

The second event is a “Children’s Holiday Cookie Contest,” which will be held on the department’s Facebook site. Children are asked to bake and decorate their favorite holiday cookie; submit us a photo of themselves with the cookie and tag it to the Houlton Recreation Department Facebook site.

Pictures can be sent between Dec.5 and Dec 15. The cookie with the most likes as of Dec. 20 will be awarded a $25 gift certificate. For more information on either events, check us out on Facebook or give us a call at 532-1310.
