PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A donation from a local utility will enable The Aroostook County Action Program to continue working to support families during the pandemic.

Versant Power recently gave a $10,000 charitable donation to ACAP for the agency’s work to support families, particularly through the COVID-19 pandemic, ACAP officials reported on Nov. 25.

“We’ve been inspired by the great work ACAP has done to support families in northern Maine during this difficult time,” said Tim Pease, vice president of legal and regulatory affairs at Versant Power.

“Versant Power  is committed to making a lasting impact in the communities our employees and our customers call home,” Pease said.

ACAP will use the funds to help support local families during the pandemic, according to a statement from Sherry Locke, development and communications manager.

The funds come at a critical time as the needs continue to grow for residents in Aroostook County. ACAP has committed this donation specifically to support struggling families, Locke said.

“This generous gift from Versant Power will allow us to continue to meet the needs in our community during  this challenging time,” said Jamie Chandler, chief operating officer at ACAP.

“We have seen a  sharp increase in the number of calls each day as we are serving individuals and families who have never turned to us for support before,” Chandler said. “With the support of partners, funders and community stakeholders we are able to blend and braid multiple funding streams together to establish and grow the programs that so many in our community are dependent on.”
