HOULTON, Maine — The puck dropped on a new hockey season for the Houlton-Hodgdon-Southern Aroostook-Katahdin Black Hawks Saturday evening at the John A. Millar Civic Center.

Much like basketball, this year’s games are different than in previous years as hockey players must wear masks inside their helmets and no fans are allowed to attend. In addition, games are now two, 23-minute halves as opposed to three 15-minute periods.

Facing Brewer, the Black Hawks were overpowered 10-0. Liam Spaulding led the Witches with three goals, while Kevin Moreau had two and Grady Vanidestine, Nick Lamprecht, Jarrod Harvey and Jed Gilpatrick each had one goal.

Elijah Matheson and Dawson Cole shared time in the net for the Black Hawks.

Members of the Black Hawk squad are seniors Matheson (goalie), Victoria Forbush (forward), and Caydon Campbell (defense); juniors Josh McGillicuddy (forward), Alex Dunn (forward), John Cumming (defense), and Kurtis Reynolds (forward); sophomores Riley Fitzpatrick (defense) and Elijah Neureuther (forward); and freshmen Connor Lynds (forward), Kanyun McNinch (forward), Garrett Fitzpatrick (defense/forward) and Cole (goalie).
