DYER BROOK, Maine — It is on to the quarterfinals for the Southern Aroostook girls soccer team following a 3-0 victory over Central Aroostook Friday afternoon.

No. 6 Southern Aroostook (9-5 overall) will now travel to No. 3 Ashland (12-2) at 4 p.m. Wednesday for a Class D North quarterfinal contest. Ashland advanced after a convincing 7-0 victory over Easton Thursday.

Central Aroostook, the No. 11 seed, ends its season with a 4-10-1 record.

In Friday’s game, Southern Aroostook was driven to victory by two goals scored in the middle of the first half in rapid succession, both of them coming off the leg of right wing Emmalee Landry. The goals proved to be more than enough to stave off Central Aroostook  who were held scoreless by the Warriors defense.

But just before time expired in the game, Southern Aroostook managed to add one more goal to sweeten the victory — this one being delivered by Cami Shields, who scored with just eight seconds remaining in regulation.
