PRESQUE ISLE , Maine — The Gene Haas Foundation has awarded a $10,000 grant to the computer numerical control certification program at Northern Maine Community College.
The funds are specifically designated to support scholarships and provide financial assistance to students as they pursue manufacturing industry credentials.
According to Kathy Looman, director of education for the Gene Haas Foundation, students enrolled or enrolling in the CNC certificate program, over the next two years, are eligible to apply for the Gene Haas Scholarship.
“The support NM continues to receive from the Gene Haas Foundation [Oxnard, California] demonstrates their commitment to training the future workforce of machinists,” stated Dean Duplessis, CNC instructor.
The CNC certificate program enables students to develop skills in programming, set-up, and operation of modern technology, including mills, lathes and indexers.
“NMCC’s designation as a Haas Technical Education Center guarantees students will have access to the latest technology in machine tools and training second-to-none,” Duplessis said.
The computer numerical control program is accredited by the National Institute of Metalworking Skills.
