Caribou girls travel team finishes season undefeated

CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou girls 5/6 AYBL basketball team ended its season undefeated following a series of victories at the Millinocket Hoop Classic March 5-6.

The Viking girls played a total of six games over the weekend and were crowned champions.  Quinn Corrigan earned the top honor of MVP of the tournament.  

In the first game of the tournament, Caribou came out to a strong lead in the first two quarters of play taking a 15-4 lead into the half against Howland. Caribou won the game, 33-6. Corrigan led the way with 11 points, while Lilly Bell added seven; Carly Levesque and Carley Dow both had four; Peyton West, Avery Soloman and Angel Morningstar, all had two; and Olivia Trosper added one.

The girls returned to play bright and early on Sunday, March 6, versus Oakfield.  Caribou came out again with a 17-6 first half lead and ended the game on top, 32-14.  Caribou again was led by Corrigan with 13 points; Dow added six; West and Anna Griffeth, both had four; and Levesque, three.

In the second game of the day, Caribou faced off against Lee and this was another exciting game of speed and action. Caribou ended this game with a 36-14 win. Dow led scorers with 10 points, while Corrigan added eight; Bell and Levesque each had six; and Anna Griffeth chipped in four.

The third game of the day was the highest scoring game of the session.  Caribou held out until the third quarter to really turn up the heat and came out with a 44-16 win over Lincoln.  Bell led the scoring with 14 points, while Corrigan and Dow both had eight; West, six; Levesque, four; and Griffeth and Angel Morningstar, both two.

In the fourth game of the day, Caribou squared up against Millinocket and the Vikings were able to put on another strong performance and came out with the 32-15 win.  Caribou was once again led by Corrigan with 14 points; Bell added six; West, five; Dow, four; Morningstar, two; and Olivia Trosper, one.

In the final game of the championship, Caribou was up against East Millinocket/Medway.  This proved to be the toughest game for the girls, as it was their fifth of the day and E. Millinocket/Medway’s second of the day. 

The Caribou girls pushed through tired legs and minds to earn a 35-20 victory. Corrigan and Dow led the way with 13 points each; Bell added four; West, three; and Levesque, one.
