Presque Isle Elks fishing derby on Saturday

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – On Saturday, June 4 the Presque Isle Elks, Lodge #1954 will once again sponsor the “Hooked on Fishing, Not Drugs” Youth Fishing Derby at Mantle Lake Park in Presque Isle. 

Before the fishing derby, the Enfield hatchery of the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife will stock Mantle Lake with 8- to 11 inch-long trout. Worms for use by the young fisherman will be provided by Moosehead Bait and Tackle. 

Registration for the fishing derby begins at 8 a.m. on June 4 and will continue until 10 a.m. Saturday morning. The derby will conclude at noon. 

The fishing derby is open to all youth from 3 to 16 years old. A supervising adult must accompany every registering young angler.  

A lifetime fishing license can be won by the registered angler catching the longest fish. Every registered fishing contestant will win an outdoor activity prize of their choice. 

For any youth desiring to fish but without a fishing pole of their own, a novice fishing rod and reel will be given to the youth to keep for future fishing.  

Grilled hot dogs, chips, juice, Houlton Farms Dairy ice cream, and water will be served.  Everything is provided free of charge by the Presque Isle Elks, Lodge #1954, and its sponsors.
