PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — At the regular meeting of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Presque Isle Lodge 1954, on July 20, Maurice “Moe” Collins was recognized for his service on the Presque lsle Elks Board of Trustees for 50 years.
Collins, also affectionately referred to as “The Godfather,” became a member of the Presque Isle Elks in 1963, shortly after the lodge was granted a charter in 1955.
In large part, it was on account of Moe’s tenacity and his love of the Elks organization that the Presque Isle Elks were able to survive some very difficult early years, local Elks officials said.
During the meeting, Alan Harding, chairman of the Presque Isle lodge’s board of directors, presented Collins with a special clock.
The inscription on the clock read: To: “The Godfather,” Maurice “Moe” Collins, in grateful appreciation for his devotion to the principles of our Order, faith, justice, brotherly love, and fidelity, and to the financial wellbeing of this Lodge for over fifty (50) years.”
