Holdsworth advances to Elks Hoop Shoot state competition

HOULTON, Maine — Jackson Holdsworth of Caribou took first place in the 8-9 boys’ age division at the Northern District Elks Hoop Shoot foul shooting competition. The event was held Sunday, Jan. 15 at the James F. Doughty School in Bangor.

Holdsworth, representing Houlton Elks Lodge 835, converted 22-of-25 attempts and a very nerve-racking tie breaker to defeat four other competitors. He is the son of Brandon Holdsworth and stepmother Brianna Rossignol. He is also the son of Meredith Kilpatrick.

The six finalists in each District contest will advance to the state finals. State champions then compete at a regional contest to determine the contestants that will compete at the national finals.

Holdsworth will next participate in the state competition, to be held Jan. 29 in Bath.
