EASTON, Maine — The Class of 2023 graciously gave Easton High School a farewell in a gym packed with family, friends and faculty.

It has been a pleasure to get to know the class of 2023 these past three years, Principal Laura Hunter said during her speech. Approximately $218,750 in scholarships were awarded to the Class of 2023.

There were 12 seniors who received their diplomas at the Easton High School graduation ceremony inside the high school’s gym despite a cool and rainy evening on Friday, June 9.

“Without the support of the amazing faculty here in Easton, we would not be the same people you see standing here today,” said Jenna Cochran, Valedictorian for Easton High School.

Cochran reflected on their time as students coming up through elementary, middle and high school with the message of “don’t wish time away.” She went on to say how graduation day marks a new beginning and wished her fellow classmates luck on their future endeavors.

“I want to thank all of my family members for equipping me with the necessary skills to thrive in life, as well as to be able to stand in front of you all tonight,” said Logan Bernier, Salutatorian for Easton High School.

Bernier thanked her family for giving her the strength, determination and independence as this chapter of life closes. She encouraged classmates to take advantage of this stage of life and expressed gratitude to the Easton High School staff for their unwavering support.

After the presentation of diplomas, the Easton High School gym lights were dimmed for a candlelight ceremony as the parents and teachers heard the graduating class sing “God Be With You Til’ We Meet Again.”

When the lights came back on, the Class of 2023 showered the audience with confetti before walking down the aisle of the gym and out to the front of the school. By the time everyone was outside, the rain had cleared into a clear sky.

“It is an honor to say that I am graduating from Easton High School,” said Emily Jackson, the first honor essayist for Easton High School.

Eight of the Class of 2023 will attend Northern Maine Community College to further pursue their education for their chosen fields of study.
