Town Boy Wins U. OF M. Honors – Orono, June 17 – voted to “have done the most for the University during their college careers,” Pauline W. True of Hope and James F. Donovan of Houlton will be awarded the Portland Alumnae Memorial Watch and the Washington Alumni Association Watch, respectively, during the commencement exercises at the University of Maine Sunday afternoon.
The two valuable watches are presented annually by the Portland Club of University of Maine Women and one man in the graduating class, who in the opinion of the students and the university administration, have done the most for the university during their courses. The awards are made as a result of a secret ballot by the students, passed upon by the president and the administrative committee.
V.F.W. Softball Aces Overcome Lead To Win – Plenty of softball action resulted Wednesday evening for scores of fans when the V.F.W. met the Dux and the Elks met the Comets. The V.F.W. behind 8-5 at the end of the third inning, shut out the Dux in the last four innings to win 13-8

New Rental Business To Open Friday – Houlton’s newest business, the Taylor Rental Center will open its doors to the public Friday morning. Owners Edward Rau and Roger Grady will hold open house on Friday and Saturday at their equipment rental business located on Bangor Street. The business reportedly offers equipment for use in almost any need or situation.
Dr. Madigan Is President – Elect Of State Assoc. – Dr. John Madigan was chosen president-elect of the Maine Medical Association at the association’s 120th annual convention held earlier this week at Kennebunkport. Dr. Madigan will assume office at next year’s annual convention of the association.

Nason retires after 40 Years – Paul Nason has retired after more than 40 years with Dunn Furniture Company and Dunn Funeral Home. Nason had been the appliance and electronics buyer and department manager for Dunn Furniture Company for many years. Starting out as a funeral directors’ assistant and ambulance driver, he moved from the funeral home to the furniture store in the late 1950s. After a brief stint with the warehouse and delivery crew, Nason moved to the sales floor. Nason’s interest in the business and his dedication to his customers led him to become one of the top salespeople on Dunn’s staff. He often won sales contests and has always been very popular with his customers.
Davis promoted – Jonathan Davis of the Aroostook Mental Health Center is the office director of the Houlton Outpatient Office. Davis joined the AMHC staff in 1995 as an outpatient therapist and in 1996 assumed the responsibilities of supervisor for the Houlton Family and Children’s Services. He is a 1990 graduate of Covenant College in Georgia with a BA degree in Psychology and a 1994 graduate of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where he received his Masters in Social Work. As office director, Davis assumes several new responsibilities, however he will continue to provide services as a clinical therapist on a limited basis. Additionally, he will supervise eight clinical staff whose responsibilities include services in AMHC’s major programs: mental health, substance abuse, community support and emergency services.
