Considering fossil fuels

To the editor:

Shortly after taking office, Biden started his war on fossil fuels. He issued a moratorium on all new fossil fuel leasing on federal lands, according to Fox News and The Hill. In June 2021 a federal court struck down the moratorium. It was permanently struck down in August 2022.  Since the embarrassing failure of Biden’s moratorium, oil production in the U.S. has reached an all-time high. It went from about 12 million barrels of crude a day in August 2022 to more than 13 million a day by October 2023, according to the Energy Information Administration.

Since August 2022 the price of gas has started to trickle down. The irony is Biden is looking to take credit for the decrease in gas prices. This is just another example of Biden failing at something and then taking credit for the positive results that resulted from his failure.

Let’s talk more hypocrisy on fossil fuels: the Willow Project. The Willow Project is a 23-million-acre area on the north slope of Alaska under federal control, according to the Alaska Beacon and the Congressional Research Service. The land is leased by Conoco Phillips, which allows drilling at three sites. In April 2023 the Biden administration’s approval of the project was challenged in court. On Nov. 9, 2023, a U.S. district court upheld the Biden administration’s approval of the project. Biden considers allowing drilling on federal lands a victory. See any hypocrisy here?

Another Biden blunder is our southern border. Illegal immigration has surged under Biden. For three years Biden has ignored our open southern border. During this time, he was given a free ride by the mainstream media. Now that the media can no longer ignore the problem and have at last called attention to it, Biden has come up with a plan: propose legislation he knows has little chance of being passed. He can then blame the Republicans for the problem that he has ignored for three years, a problem that he could have solved at any time with, among other things, an executive order. I guess Biden thinks an election year is the best time to address the problem.
