25 Years Ago — December 1, 1999

Temporarily homeless Student members of the St. Luce Catholic Youth Ministry spent time in their temporary “homes” as they simulated homeless conditions in Maine.  They huddled around a burn barrel on a Saturday night in December of 1999 in an attempt to keep warm. These “homeless” teens spent the night out-of-doors to bring attention to, and to raise funds for the homeless in Maine. CYM students included Brandon Michaud and Adam Paradis, along with chaperone Diane Landry. In addition, the activity served as a fund and awareness raiser of the homeless situation in the country and allowed the students to make a donation to the local food pantry.

On the road again — Despite the loss of a 12,000-square-foot repair shop and 11 trucks to an early morning fire on Saturday in November of 2014, the R.F. Chamberland, Inc. transportation company had trucks and drivers back on the roads just two days later. “We’re trying not to miss a beat,” said Dale Chamberland, vice president of the family company.  The company employs 85 to 90 people throughout the year, he said. The building is a “total loss,” according to St. Agatha Fire Chief Bob Guerrette.
