At the Mapleton Lions Club’s first meeting of the new year on Jan. 5, William McCartney and Wilson (last name not provided) spoke to the cub about the Presque Isle Recreation traveling youth basketball team.

Both of these Mapleton players along with a third Mapleton player are members of the traveling team.  They explained the purpose of the team and how it travels across northern and central Maine playing youth teams from other town recreation programs.  Games are played as far south as Bangor and as far north as Fort Kent.  Teams fundraise the necessary funding to cover the costs of their travel to these other towns.

After a question-and-answer session in which these players answered questions from the Lions Club members, the club voted to donate $250 to help with team travel expenses.
