University of Maine Cooperative Extension is offering a two-day sheep and goat clinic for farmers and 4-H youth.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, May 2 and 3, at the Aroostook County Extension office at 57 Houlton Road in Presque Isle.
The afternoon of May 3 will be for youth only.
Saturday will be an intensive full-day parasite session to include topics on parasite management, risk assessment, fecal egg counting and FAMACHA certification.
Sunday morning will include key topics such as basic care, housing, pasture management, handling and hoof trimming.
The Sunday afternoon session is designed for youth and prepares participants for 4-H market lamb projects. Topics will include market lamb selection and care, lamb showmanship and market lamb fitting. Adults who are especially interested in the afternoon show topics, which are geared toward 4-H youth, should contact event organizers.
Animals will be provided for hands-on demonstrations and practice.
The cost of the clinic for adults is offered on a sliding scale from $50 to $120; youth are admitted free.
