We are excited to be setting up at this weekend’s Trash & Treasure Show at the Forum in Presque Isle. It is always a fun event for the Central Aroostook Humane Society.

We will once again be having our bake sale, with lots of delicious treats to sell. We put the word out on Facebook, and so many of our supporters are going to bake and drop off some pretty amazing treats.

We’ll also have merch for sale. One of our board members, Kim, has been working on creating new T-shirts and sweatshirts to be available for sale. There will be lots of great colors to choose from. We’ll also have some crafty items along with our popular “lottery board” raffle. Only one dollar will give you a chance to win over $100 value of scratch tickets.

We always enjoy the many folks who stop by our booth to talk about their “fur baby” that was adopted at our shelter. We truly are so thankful for our many supporters,

When you finally made the decision to bring a shelter pet into your home and family, patience is the key. It is a huge adjustment not only for your family, but for the pet that has just been adopted.

Everything is new, everything has changed, and it will take some time, guidance and especially patience to ensure a smooth transition.

This well known passage talks about that transition from the new pet’s point of view.

“Now I have arrived at your home, everything is strange, and I don’t feel good. Do not feel impatient if I don’t sleep in my new basket.  Yesterday, I slept on a stone floor. Do not be terrified if I gobble up my food.  Yesterday, I had to do it to survive. Do not get angry if I pee on your floor.  Yesterday, it did not matter.

“Do not be sad if I am afraid of your loving hand. Yesterday, I did not have one. Have patience with me; it’s your world, but not yet mine. If I trust you, I can give you the greatest gift I have to give — my heart! Please never forget, I was a shelter pet.  All I need is a bit of time to adjust.”

For many animal shelters around the country, this is a sad reality. But at the Central Aroostook Humane Society, every animal that comes through our doors is loved and cared for until that forever home is found.

They have their medical needs tended to, daily socialization, walks for the dogs, cuddles and play time for the kitties and lots of attention from our dedicated employees and especially all the daily visitors who stop by.

When the time is right for a loving pet to enter your world, stop by the Central Aroostook Humane Society at 210 Cross Street, Presque Isle. We are open from 12 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays, closing for lunch from 12 to 12:30 p.m.

Please be responsible: spay and neuter your pets.
