Preparations for Baptist Park’s 95th year of operations are underway. The camping season begins June 28 and ends July 31.

During this season there will be three and a half weeks of overnight camping for kids of various ages, including eight days of day camp for younger kids. There’s also Flight Camp for youth age 14-18, which focuses on possible careers in aviation.

But this season also has plenty in store for adults.

Both adults and kids are invited to the July 3 freedom celebration to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.  The park will be open from 1 p.m. un til dark.  There will be numerous activities, including the indoor pool, for all ages.  At 4 p.m., a cook-out will be held followed by a worship service at 6 p.m. The day will end with a fireworks display.  All are welcome to attend.

Sunday nights at Baptist Park feature special speakers. Bill and Ann Clemmer (center), missionaries in Africa, speak at a 2025 session, surrounded by campers. Bill is a medical missionary and Ann works with women, especially those in prison.

The park will host a paint and sip for men and women on July 24, with a special women’s paint and sip on July 28.

Sunday evening worship services will begin on July 5 and continue throughout the month with guest pastors, speakers and local worship music teams.  For those who remember the old wooden benches as uncomfortable, they have been replaced with comfortable, cushioned chairs.

Then on July 25 the Christian life conference is planned from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Preregistration is required and there is a fee to attend.  This year’s theme is “The Great I AM: Worthy of Our Worship, Walk and Witness.”

A Men’s Retreat will be held Aug. 14 and 15 with the theme “Men Who Walk with God, Walk with Integrity.” There will be a Friday evening service and campfire. Saturday will include breakfast, two instructional sessions, lunch and activities on the grounds.  All men are invited.  There is a fee.

More information on all these coming summer activities for adults at Baptist Park can be found at:  baptistpark.net/.

Counselors needed

Young women and student counselors are needed for the camping season.  If you are looking for a summer job where rewards exceed the pay, the park needs young women who can work with the girls who come to camp this summer. Visit baptistpark.net/ for information on how to apply.

Memorial Day

The Mapleton Lions Club will conduct its traditional annual Memorial Day parade and remembrance ceremony on Monday, May 25.

The club is seeking nominations for the parade grand marshal. If you know of someone who is actively serving, or who has served, in the military from Mapleton, Castle Hill or Chapman who you believe deserves the honor, contact Steve Hanning at 207-551-6358 or any other lion and provide the contact information of your nominee.

The nominee will be invited, but is not required, to speak at the remembrance ceremony.

Auction is coming

The Lions Club’s 64th annual auction will be held Saturday, May 16, at the Mapleton Lions Hall.

The hybrid auction consists of online bidding a few days before with the final auction to be held live and in-person on the 16th.

Visit Matt Gregg Auctions for the posting of the online portion of this auction.  Also, items can be viewed online to see what has been donated and will be sold in the auction.  All items purchased and not taken following the auction will be available for pickup on May 17.
