PRESQUE ISLE – Amy Murphy and Karen Duncan of Cook Florist in Presque Isle have been certified as Maine Master Floral Designers (mmfd).
One of the Maine State Florist and Growers Association’s goals is to provide quality education for its members. One of the courses offered is the Maine Master Floral Design School (mmfd). The advanced floral design course provides specialized, up-to-date and in-depth knowledge of the elements and principles of design coupled with experience in floral mechanics and techniques. This course of study is applied to floral compositions that are complex in theory and design.
MMFD was established in 2003 to promote floral design excellence for the members of MSF&GA. The focus is to provide a source for higher standards in the art of floristry. Students must pass at 80 percent or higher, and are graded on the evaluation of nine designs plus a surprise package, theme category development, designer’s notebook, three written tests and a final exam.
Upon passing this class, students may use the addendum mmfd after their name. Students who obtain mmfd are those who have proven that they understand the art of floral compositions and can design with a creative flair.
This course is conducted over a period of four months. The students travel to Orono and Augusta to attend these classes, so their commitment to their profession is evident by their participation in this advanced course of study.
