A committal service for Catherine A (Cropley) McKissick took place on July 21, 2017, at the Hodgdon Cemetery in Hodgdon.
The family of Kay McKissick gathered together at the Deering Lake Beach where Clayton and Kay lived at one time. Later in life they moved to Charlton City, Mass. They had six children, five of whom survive: Larry of Weston and Florida, Sylvia of New Mexico, Arvin of Houlton, Cindy of Charlton, Mass., and Bruce of Charlton City Mass. One son, nicknamed Big Junnie, has passed,
On July 21, vehicles were lined up on Backer Ridge Road, where Kay lived and grew up. They followed the hearse carrying her to her final resting place beside her husband, Clayton, at the Hodgdon cemetery. All appreciated the drivers of many cars and trucks pulling over to the side of the highway and waiting until we passed by. It really showed their respect for our loved one and our loss. It was a great thing for all the young children to witness.
Linda McKissick (Fitzgerald) and Dolly McKissick (Bridgan) played their guitars at the grave site and everyone joined in singing. There were 136 members of the family present. After the service all the family went back to the beach by Deering Lake for music, bean hole beans and lots of food to share, especially Dolly’s whoopie pies and Patty Davis’ homemade chocolate cake with thick peanut butter frosting.
It really looked great to see campers and tents at the beach again. The weather and the lake water were just right. The family really enjoyed being together. Now everyone is back home. We thank our Lord for everyone’s safety.
