LIMESTONE, Maine – Virginia M. Adams, 94, wife of the late Gerald E. Adams, passed away Thursday evening, November 9, 2017, at a Caribou nursing facility, following a brief illness. She was born January 4, 1923, in Limestone, the daughter of Bedford and Idella (Gallagher) Griffeth. She was a graduate of the Limestone High School, Class of 1941 and was married to Gerald E. Adams on July 15, 1942.
She worked along with her husband at “Gerald’s Store” on the East Gate Road in Limestone for many years. Virginia was also employed over the years at the S&H Green Stamp Store and W.T. Grant, both of Caribou. Virginia was a dedicated member of the Limestone United Methodist Church where she served on the Worship Committee, the Mission Outreach, and the church choir. She was also a member of the Limestone Red Hat Ladies, and volunteered at the Closet Thrift Store in Limestone, and Meals on Wheels.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Gerald in 1991; three brothers, Franklin “Sonny”, Archie and Donald Griffeth; three sisters, Martina Libby, Julia Ward and Leola LaPointe. She is survived by two sons, Floyd Adams and his wife Carolyn of Limestone, Andrew Adams of Lake Charles, LA; three daughters, Darleen Theriault and her fiancĂ© William Rogers of Enfield, CT, Sandra Griffin and her husband Lynn of Carthage, TX, Evelyn Zellers of Carmel, IN; eleven grandchildren, Gregg Stewart of Brewer, Lorie Bidmead of Connecticut, Mary Jo Lynch, Kristi Walker, both of Gorham, Mandy Griffin of Dallas, TX, Jason Griffin of Pennsylvania, Stacie Adams of Lake Charles, LA, Jamie Sargent of Iowa, LA, Rob Slagle of Surprise, AZ, Rebecca Zellers and Andrew Zellers, both of Indiana. Virginia also leaves behind four sisters-in-law, Gretchen Griffeth, Rachel Adams, both of Limestone, Lucille Moir of Seymour, CT, Dorothy Adams of Caribou; twenty-six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends called Monday November 13, 2017 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. The funeral service was conducted Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Limestone United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cheryl Stratton officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments was held after the service in the church reception area. Interment will take place Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Webster Cemetery, Limestone.
