Christina (Churchill) Lavway

PRESQUE ISLE AND WASHBURN, Maine – Christina (Churchill) Lavway, our “Mimi”, 90, passed away on February 1, 2018, with family at her side at The Aroostook Medical Center. She was born at home in Washburn on March 29, 1927, to Harry and Pearle (Hanson) Churchill.
She graduated from Caribou High School, and in 1944 married F. Clair Lavway who predeceased her in 2010.
She was a member of The Lidstone Memorial United Methodist Church in Washburn and was involved in many church activities including The United Methodist Women and the prayer shawl ministry. She was also a member of the Rebekah’s and she and Clair enjoyed many wonderful times as members of the Spud Shufflers square dance group. After moving to the family farm on the Cross Road in Crouseville she became involved with her children’s many activities, including 4-H Baby Beef, basketball and baseball. She was an avid Red Sox fan to the very end.
She is survived by two children, David and wife, Joanne (Brown), of Glenburn, and Diane and husband, Judd Hemphill, of Presque Isle; four grandchildren, Marci (Steve) Wilcox of Presque Isle, Amie (Kris) Milo of Portland, Eric and Kelly (Nelson) and Gregory and Kim (Buck) of Presque Isle; ten greatgrandchildren, Christopher and Brooke (Hammond) Wilcox of Easton, Andrew Wilcox and Morgan Wilcox of Presque Isle, Felix Milo of Portland, Erica Hemphill and fiancée, Will Delong, Alexander Hemphill, Garrett Hemphill and wife, Alexandra (Lambert), Grayden Hemphill, Grant Hemphill and fiancée, Kailee Clark, and Gavin Hemphill all of Presque Isle; and two great-great-grandchildren, Mason and Aubree Wilcox of Easton. She is also survived by special nieces, Velva (George) Doody and Joyce Doody of Washburn; as well as several nieces and nephews, and her two cats, Tiger and Sunny.
She was predeceased by her parents and husband, three sisters, Adeline (James) Plissey, Leatha Wilson, and Catherine (Guy) Turner, and two brothers, John Allen Churchill and Ervine Churchill.
The family would like to thank Victoria Grover and the staff at Full Circle Health Care, the staff at Leisure Village and the staff of The Aroostook Medical Center for their wonderful care and kindness toward Mom these past few months and days.
There will not be a service at this time. A memorial service will be held at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home in the spring. Interment will follow the service at Crouseville Cemetery.
