ANTHONY ‘TONY’ J. TOMAH, HOULTON – Anthony ‘Tony’ J. Tomah, 57, passed away on Good Friday, March 30, 2018, at a Bangor hospital, while surrounded by his family. He was born on July 26, 1960, in Houlton, the son of Joseph A. and Gloria Tomah.
Tony grew up in Houlton and graduated from Houlton High School. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country for four years. Upon his honorable discharge, Tony returned to Houlton and married Mary Joseph in 1989. He worked for the Houlton Band of Maliseet for many years as a housing director and realtor, as well as being a Tribal Council Member. Tony enjoyed fishing, camping, hiking, woodworking, basket making, but mostly spending time with his grandchildren and family.
He is survived by his wife of nearly thirty years, Mary Tomah of Houlton; four daughters, Rhonda Neptune and her husband, John, of Indian Island, Courtney London of Houlton, Brittney Cunningham and her husband, Jason, of Presque Isle, and Alexandra London of Monticello; seven grandchildren, Alexis, Jeremiah, Ciara, Phin, Ella, Sebec, and Atticus, with another one on the way. Tony also leaves behind five sisters, Suzanne Desiderio and her husband, Douglas, of Houlton, Wanda Tomah of Houlton, Lisa Matthews and significant other, Ashley Brewer, of Houlton, Jody Clark and husband, Tony, of Houlton, and Samantha Giffard and her husband, David, of Brewer; his father-in-law, John Joseph Sr., a close friend, Lisa Hardy, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Tony was predeceased by a grandson, Quinton Kobylarz, and a brother-in-law, Tom Matthews.
At Tony’s request there will be no visitation. A Funeral Liturgy of Christian Burial Outside of Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday April 5, 2018, at St. Mary of the Visitation with Deacon Al Burleigh officiating. A reception will be held at the Parish Center immediately following the service at the Parish Center. An interment with military honors will take place at a later date at the Veterans Section of the Maliseet Tribal Cemetery, Houlton. Gifts in Tony’s memory may be made payable to the Arthur E.
