Snow forces changes to varsity sports schedule

Snowy weather Tuesday and Wednesday has caused many sports contests in the region to be postponed.

Tuesday’s scheduled girls-boys doubleheader between Washburn and Van Buren on the Beavers’ home floor will now be played Monday, Jan. 14, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with the girls’ game.

Also, the Ashland girls’ game at Katahdin, originally set for Tuesday, will now be played at 6 p.m. Feb. 4.

The boys’ basketball game between Caribou and Presque Isle, planned for Wednesday, has been moved to 7 p.m. Thursday. SAD 1 Athletic Administrator Mark White is encouraging fans who want to attend the game to show up early as he expects a sellout. The JV game begins at 5:30 p.m.

A few other Wednesday contests also have been moved due to the inclement weather.

The Aroostook League middle school cheering championships are now set for Thursday, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Central Aroostook Junior-Senior High School in Mars Hill.

The Fort Kent at Caribou wrestling meet will begin at 4 p.m. Jan. 23.

The girls’ basketball game between East Grand and Katahdin also is off, with no make-up date set yet.

The Hodgdon at Woodland boys’ basketball game has been moved to 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Houlton boys at Southern Aroostook has been moved to Thursday at 7 p.m.
