A.R. Gould opens slowly — Northern Light AR Gould Hospital has slowly begun to open up services restricted or on hold due to the COVID-19 crisis, with safety precautions in place. The Mars Hill Health Center and Women’s Health Center will open May 18. The Caribou Health Center will open to adult patients May 18. Drop-in lab work continues at the Presque Isle hospital lab and Fort Fairfield facility. There will be no expanded hours at any of the practices at this time. Patients with fever and shortness of breath will continue to be seen only at North Street in Presque Isle. Walk-In Care at North Street remains open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Peer support hits the road — The Aroostook Mental Health Center’s Community Recovery Support Services is bringing substance use disorder help on the road through May. Staff and volunteers will be out in local communities promoting services as well as distributing naloxone. Local support sessions include the following in Caribou: Tuesdays, 1 to 3 p.m., Roads to Recovery Community Center, 1 Water St.; and Fridays 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Neuro Rehab Center parking lot, 159 Bennett Dr. Also, Van Buren, Tuesdays, 9 a.m.-12 p.m., old Irving parking lot.
Woodlot sessions — Maine Woodland Owners will host several Virtual Forestry Information programs in May on forest management, planning for a woodlot’s future, updates on invasive forest pests, the benefits of donating land, how forests play a role in addressing climate change, and a question and answer session with a landowner relations officer from the Maine Forest Service. All events are open to the public and free for MWO members, with a suggested $10 donation for non-members. To register for any event visit www.mainewoodlandowners.org.
