PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Caribou beat Presque Isle in the Aroostook Class B Golf Championships in Presque Isle Tuesday, after the Vikings turned out an impressive performance over 18 holes.

Five players from each school participated in the regional tournament, which was held at the Presque Isle Country Club. Caribou High School scored 357, while Presque Isle shot a 397.

Cory Herbert of Caribou was the medalist on the day, shooting 85. Three players shot 90: Hunter Stubbs of Presque Isle, as well as Miles Collier and Sawyer Deprey of Caribou.

Neither the Caribou, nor Presque Isle teams qualified for the state championship at Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro, where teams across the state will play on Friday and Saturday.

However, three Caribou players and one Presque Isle player will compete in that tournament due to their individual performances — Stubbs for Presque Isle and Collier, Deprey and Herbert for Caribou. To qualify for states as an individual, male golfers needed to shoot 90-or-below, while female golfers needed to shoot 100 or below.

Teams that shot a qualifying score at or below 340 automatically qualified for the team championship. Any school that shot above 390 would not advance to the team championship, even if they were in the top one-third of teams.

Individual performances for Caribou were: Cory Herbert, 85; Miles Collier, 90; Sawyer Deprey, 90; Carter Quist, 92; and Brevin Barnes, 99.

Individual performances for Presque Isle were: Hunter Stubbs, 90; Jackson Maynard, 100; Ian MacKinnon, 103; Noah Roy, 104; and Ben Duprey, 108.
