HOULTON, Maine – At a special meeting of The Aroostook County Republican Committee in Houlton Monday, Bill Dobbins of Houlton was unanimously elected to be the party’s candidate for Aroostook County Commissioner for the First District.
The First District covers towns from Orient to Fort Fairfield. He replaces Kristi Swallow of Houlton who resigned as a candidate.
A lifelong resident of Aroostook County, Dobbins graduated from Houlton High School in 1971 and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine Presque Isle in 1975.
He subsequently received his masters in education and his Certificate of Advanced Studies in Superintendency, both from the University of Maine in Orono. His professional career in education has included serving as a teacher and assistant superintendent for SAD 70 (Hodgdon) from 1975 to 1993; SAD 14 (Danforth) superintendent from 1994-2010; Caswell superintendent from 1993 to present (part-time); and Limestone superintendent since 2019 (part-time).
“I have served as a selectman for the town of Hodgdon and have had firsthand experience working with the County Commissioners,” Dobbins said. “I believe my broad experience with the public as an administrator will enhance my contribution to all of Aroostook County as a Commissioner. I am committed to serve the citizens of District 1 for the next six years in a fair and balanced way. I will always be accessible to address their needs as their Commissioner.”
