To the editor:
Tax filing season may be a few months away, but our Tax-Aide team in Caribou, also serving Presque Isle and surrounding towns, is already seeking volunteers who want to serve their community through the AARP Foundation’s Tax-Aide program.
Tax-Aide focuses on serving older adults and others with low to moderate income and helps them secure much-needed tax refunds.
As a Tax-Aide volunteer for 15 years, it’s been so gratifying to help our friends and neighbors file their tax returns for free, and to ensure they get the Maine Property and Sales Tax Fairness credits for which they may be eligible.
Volunteers are trained and IRS certified, and classes are generally held in January for the upcoming tax filing season. During tax filing season (February through April), our volunteers will assist taxpayers. Tax site days and hours of operation will be publicized in January.
Please consider joining our team of local Tax-Aide volunteers to support our communities. AARP Membership is not required to volunteer or to receive tax preparation services. Learn more and apply online at: aarpfoundation.org/taxaidevolunteer.
For questions about volunteer opportunities, contact the Maine Tax-Aide team at: mainetaxaide@gmail.com, or call 207-441-2784. Local leadership will reach out to you when we receive your information.
