EASTON – The Easton Bears guarded their basket and kept up a constant attack against the Washburn net for a 72-40 final score in their favor on Tuesday, Dec. 18. With the knowledge of their opponents and their home court, the Easton boys went one-up on the Beavers in the first quarter, 18-17, and never relinquished the lead.
Easton’s Jeremy Brock totaled 23 points followed by Brad Trask with 17. Sam Bacon hit the glass right for 12 points, and Nick Flewelling added another 10 points.
Washburn’s Nick McIntosh led his team with 17 points.
The Washburn girls’ preserved their perfect 4-0 record at Easton on Tuesday, Dec. 18 with a 51-11 final.
Beaver Kelsie McLaughlin scored the team-high 12 points. Bear Sydney Trask shot for five points in Easton’s effort.
Last Thursday night, senior Beaver Rachel Palmer tipped the ball into the hoop to lead the Washburn girls to another victory with 17 points and powered away her opponents for 10 rebounds. The girls defeated Southern Aroostook, 48-35.
“It wasn’t as pretty as some of our other games,” commented head coach Ron Ericson. “We got the ball up the floor where we needed to be.”
McLaughlin added 14 points and Rebecca Campbell 13 to their scoring statistics.
The Washburn boys opened scoring in their home game against Van Buren last Thursday night, but the Crusaders answered back and took the lead. The Beavers pounded the floor boards and forced turnovers to fight back to within one point of a tie, 28-27 Van Buren, at the half. However, Washburn couldn’t shutdown the Crusaders who had the upper-hand in the end, 66-41.
Evan Sperrey claimed the team-high scoring record with 16 points, followed by teammate McIntosh with 13.
Tigers on guard against the Panthers
The Fort Fairfield boys’ basketball squad had the fan advantage when they took to the courts in their home game against Central Aroostook on Tuesday, Dec. 18. Both teams played a fast-paced and pressured game, but Central Aroostook came out on top, 57-45, to preserve their perfect record, 3-0.
The Tigers and Panthers attacked the ball and net leading to some foul trouble and close score in the first half. CAHS senior Cameron York secured the Panther win with 12 points in the fourth.
York had the team-high 26 points for Central Aroostook, including three three-pointers. Manny Martinez’s quick moves led him to 11 points.
Doug Sharpe led Tiger scoring with 10 points.
The Central Aroostook girls toppled Southern Aroostook at home on Tuesday, Dec. 18 with 56-26 on the scoreboard.
Panther Sara Long added a double-double to her statistics with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Alex Dame added 18 points to the Panther scoring column.
The CAHS girls went on to dominate offense in last Thursday’s game against Madawaska with a 55-17 final.
Long arched in 19 points with the game-high total. Amber Bradley and Dame added another 13 points each.
The Fort Fairfield girls’ varsity basketball team had a 10-point lead in the first and second quarters that expanded to the 38-24 final over Van Buren at Fort Fairfield last Wednesday night. Tiger Whitney Clark nabbed a three-pointer and the game-high scoring total of 17 points.
The Fort Fairfield boys’ hammered Hodgdon in the third quarter with a 21 to six run for an eventual Tiger victory in last Thursday’s game, 59-41.
“The Hawks are a young high energy team that don’t quit coming,” said Alley.
Cresenzo led the red squad with 16 points while Sharpe added 10 points.
