The Upper Valley Economic Corporation recently received a donation from the Katahdin Trust Company in the amount of $4,000 for the general budget. The generous donation will help the continuation of UVEC’s operation. UVEC has several projects under way to strengthen the local economy of Sherman and Stacyville.

GRANT FOR SOUTHERN AROOSTOOK — Peter Qualey, chairman of the Upper Valley Economic Corporation pictured left and Jeff Packard, UVEC office manager pictured on the right accepts $4,000 in grant money from Patten’s Katahdin Trust Company representatives, Pete Porter, vice president and commercial services officer and Emily Hosford, branch manager and retail services officer. This grant will pro-vide support for several projects underwayin the towns of Stacyville and Sherman.
Some of the projects include; a community wind project that when completed will bring revenue to local businesses, individuals, as well as tax revenue for Sherman and Stacyville, UVEC Food Pantry, (a TEFAP agent), which serves the needy in the southern Aroostook area, UVEC is working with the town of Stacyville to bring affordable housing for the elderly and UVEC publishes an annual business guide promoting the many services offered by talented individuals in these local communities.
The Upper Valley Economic Corporation was formed in 1999 with a mission to provide the best possible environment for local investment and entrepreneurial activity, promote existing business expansion and to market the area to new industries. UVEC has benefited from the support of Rep. Michael Michaud, Senator Susan Collin, Senator Olympia Snowe, as well as Senator Roger Sherman of Houlton and Rep. Henry Joy of Island Falls in the development of the local economy.
UVEC is working diligently to bring businesses to our area and to help existing businesses grow and prosper. UVEC is also working with the towns and local organizations in seeking funds for their projects.
