HOULTON, Maine — The Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce has announced plans to revive its Miss Houlton, Junior Miss Houlton and Little Miss Houlton pageants.
“We haven’t held these since 2003,” said event coordinator Debbie Beals. “The categories will be open to all girls, in each category, who go to school in SAD 29, the Greater Houlton Christian Academy or are home schooled in the town of Houlton.”
The pageants will be held collectively Sunday, May 23, at the Houlton High School auditorium.
The Miss Houlton category is open to girls in their junior or senior year of high school or who have graduated from school and are up to 24 years old. The Junior Miss category is open to girls in grades 6, 7 and 8. The Little Miss Houlton category is open to girls in grades 1, 2 and 3.
The pageants will be awarding a $500 cash prize for Miss Houlton with a trophy and savings bonds and trophies for the Junior Miss and Little Miss categories.
Informational sheets will be passed out to the schools about the pageant or will be available at the Chamber of Commerce office at 109 Main St. in Houlton.
A sign up session will be held Saturday, March 20 at the Houlton Higher Education Center from 9 a.m. to noon. Girls will need to turn in the informational sheet and pick up their Pageant Packet. A parent will need to accompany each girl to the session to sign the pageant forms with the contestant.
If a contestant can not make the sign up session, Pageant Packets will be available at the Chamber office to sign and turn into the Pageant Committee.
All packets must be filled in, signed and turned in by noon, Saturday, March 20 to be eligible to enter the Pageants. A general meeting of contestants will be held the week of March 22 to go over all the pageant information and what is required of each contestant.
