To the editor:
It was a beautiful sight this past Sunday, April 25th. My husband and I arrived around the prescribed time for the first of several Community Clean-up Days to help clean and clear the recently acquired land on which the Ark Animal Sanctuary will build its future home on Old Woodstock Road, and there was already a group of people well into their work. Throughout the day we all cut brush, removed dead trees, picked up years of discarded trash, and it was all done with a great sense of community, friendship and a vision of what that land will accomplish in the near future. The site was formerly a slaughterhouse. How apropos that on this quiet and beautiful piece of land where animals once had their lifeblood drained, homeless animals will be given a new life and lots of unconditional love.
A lot of work was done, and we were all treated to some great home-cooked chow and desserts, but there is a lot more work to be done and volunteers are welcome. The rest of the Community Clean-Up schedule includes Sundays May 2 and 16, then Saturdays June 12 and 26. All days are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or however long someone can stay. Every little bit of help is appreciated.
Like a beautiful spring flower that rises through the debris of winter, so shall the Ark Animal Sanctuary rise from the overgrown brush and rubble because the people involved in seeing that happen have a strong resolve to help the homeless pets of our community.
