As of Tuesday morning, the latest Class C Heal Point standings show Houlton dropping to ninth place and facing a potential playoff. The top 10 teams make postseason, with the ninth and 10th teams in a preliminary game to see who advances to the tournament.
The recent standings are: first, Stearns, 14-1; second, Foxcroft, 14-1; third, Calais, 10-3; fourth, PVHS, 10-5; fifth, Searsport, 7-7; sixth, Washington Academy, 11-4; seventh, Madawaska, 10-5; eighth, Orono, 9-6; 10th, Fort Kent, 7-7 and 18th, Hodgdon, 5-9.
On Monday, the Stearns Minutemen defeated the Houlton Shiretowners, 9-1 in Houlton.
Mike Ring tripled and singled, while Hunter Hanning tripled.
The Minutemen took a 5-0 lead over four innings, adding another three runs in the sixth.
Last Tuesday, the Shires were defeated by host Caribou, 10-4. Houlton opened the game with a 3-2 lead, but Caribou came back with seven runs in the next two innings.
Ian Gervais paced Houlton’s offense with a two-run double and Ring added a run-scoring double, while Josh Harvey singled twice and scored a run.
In Tuesday’s Class D Heal Points, the standings were: first, Shead, 13-2; second, Southern Aroostook, 13-1; third, CAHS, 12-2; fourth, Katahdin, 9-3; fifth, Deer-Isle Stonington, 9-6; sixth, Machias, 6-6; seventh, Wisdom, 10-3; eighth, Bangor Christian, 9-7; ninth, Jonesport-Beals; 10th, Greater Houlton Christian Academy, 5-8 and 17th, East Grand, 1-9.

Last Thursday, Katahdin blew out visiting Ashland, 25-0 after scoring 15 first-inning runs.
Mark McGraw drove in five runs with a three-run homer, double and single, while Cody Cunningham and Mickey Savage each stroked two doubles and single to bring in three runs. Brandon Robinson doubled and singled.
Robinson, Cunningham and McGraw combined on a one-hitter.
The Southern Aroostook Warriors added another win last Wednesday over visiting Greater Houlton Christian Academy, 10-1 behind Pat Goodall’s complete-game one-hitter. Goodall fanned nine and walked three.
Backing Goodall was Travis Casey with a first-inning grand slam and single, while Anthony Diaferio and Jesse Boulier each had a pair of base hits.
Andrew Little’s second-inning bunt was GHCA’s only hit.

In Tuesday’s Heal Point standings, the Houlton Lady Shires and Hodgdon Lady Hawks ranked 16th and 17th respectively. Houlton has a 5-10 record and Hodgdon a 3-11 mark. The top 10 teams advance to postseason.
On Monday, the Houlton Lady Shires lost to visiting Stearns, 16-8 at Community Park.
The game was tied 2-all after the first inning, but the Minutemen outscored Houlton, 8-2 over five innings en route to the win.
Marina Cameron roped three singles, while Madison Lezotte blasted a two-run triple. Chelsi Murray stroked a solo homer in the seventh.
Last Tuesday, Caribou toppled Houlton, 18-5 in Caribou. The Lady Vikes led 7-5 and scored seven runs in the bottom of the third to open the game up.
Vanessa Sanderson collected four singles and drove in two runs, while Taylor Bailey singled twice for two RBIs. Murray added a double.
In the latest Class D Heal Point standings, the Southern Aroostook Lady Warriors were at the top with a 12-2 record, followed by Limestone/MSSM, 10-3; Deer-Isle Stonington, 14-1; Katahdin, 11-2; Ashland, 8-6; CAHS, 8-6; Wisdom, 6-6; GHCA, 9-9; Bangor Christian, 5-11; Shead, 6-7 and East Grand, 4-5.

Katahdin overpowered Ashland last Thursday in Stacyville, 14-2, after taking a 10-1 lead after the third.
Melissa Duffy, Kali Rush and Dani-Beth Cyr all singled twice to drive in two runs each for the Lady Cougars. Myah Smallwood finished with a seven-hitter, striking out five and walking three.
It was Southern Aroostook’s Shelby Hartin who made the difference in last Thursday’s game against visiting Central Aroostook.
The game was tied 4-all after the fourth, but CAHS scored two runs in the top of the sixth to lead 6-4. In the bottom of the frame, SACS drew a walk and then had five base hits to drive in four runs, highlighted by Hartin’s single that knocked in the tying and go-ahead runs in SACS’ 8-6 victory.
Liz Goodall collected three singles and drove in two runs, while Evangeline Goodall doubled and singled for the Lady Warriors.
For CAHS, Kristen Long singled and brought in two runs, while Page Garrison singled and had an RBI and Racheal Grew reached on a fielder’s choice and drove in a run.
Last Tuesday, SACS overtook Greater Houlton Christian Academy, 28-2.
Liz Goodall belted two doubles and a single, while Hartin singled twice and doubled. Evangeline Goodall allowed two runs and two hits through five innings.
For GHCA, Makayla Wiley and Jamie Mellia each singled.
The Lady Warriors broke the game open with a 12-run second inning.
Last Thursday in Danforth, the East Grand Lady Vikes edged Shead, 11-10. Shelby Lindsay drew a bases-loaded walk to finish a four-run Lady Vikes’ rally in the bottom of the seventh. Liz Gilman, Kaitlyn Beaudoin and Elisha Farley all had run-scoring singles in the seventh. Shaunna Beaudoin had five singles, while Farley doubled, singled and drove in four runs. Gilman doubled, had two base hits and drove in three runs, while Kaitlyn Beaudoin singled twice, doubled and had two RBIs.
Houlton boys defeat Caribou
The Houlton High School tennis teams hosted Caribou last Tuesday.
The Houlton boys won 4-1 and the girls lost 5-0.
In boys’ action, with the Houlton names listed first, Zach Harvey defeated Ezra Duplessie-Cyr 8-4, while Luke Anderson topped Nick Willey 8-6 and Tyler Delano overtook Jon Ouellette 8-6.
In doubles, Cody Woods/Craig Thomas outdid Phil Smith/Matt Cote 8-5, but D.J.McGary/Jordan Russell dropped their match to Tyler Willey/Lucien Caverhill, 8-4.
In girls’ action, with Houlton names listed first, Hiba Bilal was defeated 8-0 by Jenna Selander, while Chelsea Fitzpatrick dropped an 8-2 match to Laura Collins and Caribou’s Carlee Pinette won by forfeit.
In doubles, Daisy Torres/Asley Hannigan fell to Missy Nadeau/Liz Barbosa 8-0 and Lizzy Garcia/Maggie Garcia were defeated 8-0 by Ashley Richards/Katie Keaton.
The Houlton boys team is ranked seventh in the Class C Heal Points as of Tuesday morning. They would potentially be in a playoff with No. 10 Schenck for the right to advance to quarterfinal action.
The top six teams were: George Stevens Academy, 12-0; Madawaska, 9-3; Stearns, 10-2; Foxcroft Academy, 12-0; Orono, 8-4 and Washington Academy, 9-2. Placing eighth-10th: Penquis, 6-6; Van Buren, 3-5 and Schenck 5-7.
