The Southern Aroostook Cultural Arts Program will once again be managing a musical scholarship for a local high school student.
A gifted musician, Lewis Taavi Wirta loved to play music and share music with others. A scholarship of $500 will be awarded to a 2012 graduating senior from one of the area local high schools or an eligible home-schooled student. Eligible students must have maintained a grade point average of at least 3.5.
This scholarship was established in 2008 and is funded through the sales of the student note cards. The images for the note cards are chosen from the artwork that is exhibited in the annual Seeds of Creativity Student Art Show.
Previous scholarship recipients have been: Callie Foster, 2009 Hodgdon High School; Alexandra Bishop, 2010 Southern Aroostook Community High School; and Paul Griffin, 2011 home schooled.
“Our hope is to foster creativity and self-expression through the arts for our young artists,” said Leigh Griffith of SACAP . “We encourage students to go to their school’s Guidance Office for an application. The application must be postmarked by April 2. Submit your application to SACAP, PO Box 382, Houlton, ME 04730.”
