There will be two local Class D boys teams in preliminary action, playing for the right to reach the Eastern Maine quarterfinal round at the new Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
With 16 teams qualifying for postseason in Class D there are no byes, as each team has a playoff game. Tonight at 6 p.m., the No. 3 Hodgdon boys will host No. 14 Wisdom at Hodgdon High School.
The winner of this game goes onto the quarterfinal round on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 7:35 p.m. in Bangor where they will face the winner of the matchup between No. 6 Machias/No. 11 Fort Fairfield.
In other local action, the No. 5 Southern Aroostook Warriors will host No. 12 Central Aroostook in a 7 p.m. game in Dyer Brook.
The winner of this matchup will play in the Class D quarterfinal round on Monday, Feb. 17 at 2:05 p.m. in Bangor. They would play against the prelim winner between No. 4 Shead/No. 13 Deer-Isle Stonington.
The Class D girls played their preliminary games last night, as the No. 10 GHCA girls traveled to No. 7 Limestone/MSSM; No. 14 Katahdin went to No. 3 Fort Fairfield; and No. 15 East Grand had a long trip to No. 2 Van Buren.
The winners of these games go on to the Eastern Maine Tournament quarterfinals to be held Monday, Feb. 17 in Bangor.
If GHCA should win, they would play the winner of East Grand/Van Buren at 11:05 a.m., while the winner of the Katahdin/Fort Fairfield matchup would meet the winner of the PVHS/Southern Aroostook game will be at 9:35 a.m.
The Eastern Maine Tournament begins Friday with Class B and will finish with the championship games in Classes B-D on Saturday.
