HOULTON — Houlton Regional Hospital has announced the addition of another new Pediatrician.  Dr. Adwoa Manu-Boateng joined Houlton Pediatrics on July 6.

Dr. Boateng was born in the country of Ghana but at the age of 3 came first to Miramichi, New Brunswick and then later at the age of 7 to Centerville, New Brunswick where she completed her elementary and high school education.  She then went to Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada and Medical School at St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. Dr. Boateng completed her residency at OSF St. Francis Medical Center/Children’s Hospital of Illinois.

Dr. Boateng is married to Yaw Nti-Addae, also from her native country of Ghana.  Yaw is a computational biologist, currently working in New York.  Adwoa is happy to be in Houlton  where she is familiar with the community and near her family.  She has settled in and is enjoying her medical practice.

“Physicians receive many phone calls from physician recruiters and hospitals as the physician is about to finish their residency and they are starting to look for a position,” explained Janene Moran, physician recruiter for Houlton Regional Hospital. “ When Dr. Boateng and I had our initial phone interview she was not aware I was calling from Houlton, nor was I aware she was from Centerville, New Brunswick.  As I was explaining our location, the area and our climate Dr. Boateng quickly realized this was Houlton, Maine! We then proceeded to have a wonderful conversation about ‘home,’ as well as the hospital and practice. Dr. Boateng’s parents still live in Centerville, New Brunswick, so in essence she chose to start her practice with Houlton Regional Hospital and be near family.  Dr. Boateng was a real find for Houlton Pediatrics.”

“We are very pleased to be able to now offer the services of four Pediatricians in Houlton Pediatrics.  Dr. Boateng now joins Pediatricians Dr. Rosalinda Maraya, Dr. Joseph Fahey and Dr. Grace Freier”, said Tom Moakler, CEO of Houlton Regional Hospital.
