Coast Guard bestows awards and promotions

    Chief Skip Ripley, below right, recently promoted Electronics Technician Third Class (on behalf of Captain James McPherson, commander, United States Coast Guard  Sector Northern New England), Raul Valle, center, to Electronics Technician Second Class (E-5, Non-Commissioned Officer), during an awards ceremony at United States Coast Guard LORAN Station, located in Caribou. ET2 Valle is a native of Puerto Rico and has been in the Armed Forces for four years. Chief Ripley and ET1 Alain Cloutier, left, formally pin on ET2 Valle’s collar devices denoting his new rank of E-5.

    Chief Skip Ripley, left,  re-enlists MK1 Joel R. Brooks, U.S. Coast Guard, during a ceremony held at the USCG Loran Station, Caribou. MK1 Brooks re-enlisted for an indefinite period after already serving in the Armed Forces for 14 years. MK1 Brooks is a native of Texas and had previously served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army for a 10 year period. He is a Gulf War veteran, having served with the Army in Iraq and is presently the Engineering Petty Officer for the Loran Station.

    Chief Skip Ripley, left, awards the U.S. Coast Guard Commendation Medal to ET1 Alain Cloutier after seven years of superior performance at USCG Loran Station, Caribou. ET1 Cloutier is a native of Quebec, Canada and Jackman, Maine and is departing the unit to report to the Coast Guard Cutter Hickory homeported in Homer, Alaska.
    ET1 Cloutier is a United States Air Force veteran as well as Gulf War veteran, serving in the United States Navy during that conflict.
    He has 16 years of military service.
