Playoffs under way in Little League, Sleepers and Shop ’n Save are top seeds

VFW 19, Woodland Eagles 8
    VFW launched a 15-hit attack, and used plenty of scoring in the middle innings to defeat the Eagles.
    Seven runs came across in the third inning and five more in the fourth for VFW, which got four hits from Brandon Tweed and three apiece from Dylan Berkoski, Jake Perreault and Nolan Powers. Dave Smith struck out eight in his season debut on the mound.
    Shawn Doody and Jared Fox collected two hits each for the Eagles, while Shawn Doody made a nice play at shortstop to spearhead the defense.
K of C 10, Woodland Tigers 3
    Kyle Soetart-Beaulieu singled twice and Brian Corbin and Taylor Thibodeau combined to strike out 15 Tiger batters as the Knights came out on top.
    Zach Connelly and Matt Manter both had two hits and Dylan Conroy connected for an inside-the-park homer to lead Woodland’s offense.
Sleepers 5, North Stars 1
    The North Stars kept the Sleepers’ baserunners in check and both teams were strong defensively throughout the game, but Sleepers managed to prevail.
    Brendan Cyr, Michael Hunter and Mason Huck did the pitching for Sleepers. Hunter had a triple and scored two runs, Huck singled and tripled, scored twice and knocked in a run. Connor Thibeault singled, doubled and drove in a pair of runs.
    For the North Stars, Gunner Bondeson struck out seven batters while pitching into the third inning. Glen Peterson had a great catch in right field to end the fourth inning.
    Kevin Bither singled and scored the sole run for North Stars, with Shane Landeen bringing him home on a single.
VFW 17, Savings Bank of Maine 3
    Dylan Berkoski was dominant on the mound and at the plate as his VFW team won with ease.
    Berkoski pitched the first 4-1/3 innings and struck out 12 batters to earn the pitching victory. On offense, he went 5 for 5 with two homers.
    Jake Perreault  and Evan Desmond both had three hits and Dave Smith doubled for the winners.
    Perreault also played well defensively behind the plate and Evan Desmond pitched well in relief.
    For Savings Bank of Maine, Jacob Burby doubled. Braydon Burby was a defensive standout.
Woodland Eagles 13, North Stars 9
    The Eagles used a six-run rally in the fourth inning to come from behind and defeat the North Stars.
    Hunter Milliard’s three hits, which included a triple, led the Eagles’ offense, while teammate Jared Fox also tripled and drove in three runs. Shawn Doody picked up the pitching victory, the first of his career, after coming on in relief of Milliard.
    Brad Anderson, Glen Peterson and Andrew Christie all had doubles for the North Stars.
Savings Bank of Maine 6, Maine Bag 5
    Savings  Bank of Maine had to hold off a late rally by a Maine Bag team which was looking for its first victory of the season.
    Jacob Burby, Dylan Coty and Brayden Burby combined to strike out 14 batters. For Coty, it was his first-ever mound appearance.
    Defensively, Coty tagged out a Maine Bag runner attempting to steal home.
    Brayden Burby tripled and singled twice, while Jacob Burby had a triple and a double to lead the winning offense.
    Josh Fortin and Nathan Wall combined on the pitching duties for Maine Bag. Spencer St. Peter and Kris Michaud combined for a good defensive play in the fifth inning.
    Fortin tripled and drove in a pair of runs, while Racheal Soucy had her first hit of the season for Maine Bag.
