Unitarian Church celebrates its bicentennial year with concert

On Saturday, April 16, at 7 p.m., Putnam Smith will perform at the Houlton Unitarian Church as one of the featured events of their Bicentennial Year Celebration. Joining Putnam will be Nate Spencer from Asheville, N.C., adding tight harmony vocals, as well as some fancy pickin’ on mandolin, guitar and mando-cello.

Holden to serve as new Pastor Emerita

On Sunday, March 27, at 10:30 a.m. there will be a special service for retired Pastor Dale Holden as she assumes the role of Pastor Emerita at the First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ in Houlton.

Church group raises over $1,360 for UNICEF

Over $1,000 was raised on Sunday Oct. 24 when 28 youths of the Limestone Methodist Church, with the help of a couple non-members, trick-or-treated early for UNICEF.

‘Back to Church Sunday’ is Sept. 12

“Back To Church Sunday,” part of a national movement of churches across America, will be held at Military Street Baptist Church in Houlton, ME at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 12. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Presque Isle Wesleyan Church recently had 49 children receive year-end awards at an Awana Awards ceremony held Wednesday, June 9, for their earned work completed in Bible studies and scriptures knowledge, as well as for their participation and attendance in the educational and fun Awana program.

Limestone United Methodist Church celebrates 120 years

The history of the Limestone United Methodist Church is a story of ingenuity, hardship, joy, endurance and faith. From preliminary Methodist services offered in homes to the dedication of the Church on July 16, 1890, from the spare-potato fund-raising efforts for church repairs in the ‘20s to the turbulent theological times of the ‘60s and even from the closing of the Loring Air Force Base in the ‘90s came the congregation of today— unified, devout and compassionate with more strength than ever.

Local churches plan joint vacation Bible School

 After much prayer and consideration, Military Street Baptist Church and Houlton Wesleyan Church have decided to join forces and plan a combined Vacation Bible School for area children this summer.
