Presque Isle, Mars Hill venues to host state high school competition

PRESQUE ISLE and MARS HILL, Maine – Big Rock Ski Area in Mars Hill and the Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle are gearing up to host the Class C state skiing competition Feb. 19-21.
     Officials anticipate 2-300 students, coaches and parents to converge on the area with competition set to start Monday in the boys’ giant slalom event at 9 a.m. Competition continues at 11:30 a.m. with the girls’ race.
Cross-country skiing starts Monday at 3 p.m. with the boys’ freestyle race at the Nordic Heritage Center followed by the girls’ competition at 4.
Downhill skiing concludes Tuesday at Big Rock with the boys’ slalom races at 9:30 and 11:15 a.m. The girls’ follow at 12:45 and 2:30 p.m. Central Aroostook High School is the host site of the downhill awards ceremony, beginning at 4 p.m.
Cross-country skiing concludes in Presque Isle on Wednesday with the 5K Classical meet. The boys’ race begins at 9 a.m. with the girls to follow at 10:45. Team and individual awards will be presented at the Nordic Heritage Center at 2 p.m.
Aroostook County schools competing in the meets include Fort Fairfield, Fort Kent, Madawaska, Central Aroostook and Van Buren.
