Class of 1967

Unable to attend his class reunion, David L. Archer, of the Presque Isle High School Class of 1967, wanted to say hello to his classmates and let them know he was thinking of them and sends a big hello to all attending the reunion and to his friends throughout Aroostook County.
“For the reunion I understand that Phil Sirois is reuniting the Mighty Mighty Mustangs, PIHS’s number-one band at the time, to play. I’m so sorry I can’t be there. I’m still sorry I missed Woodstock, but I was working that summer and having a great time with the Great Big Daddy Del Hodgkins at WEGP, that wonderful AM station,” said Archer.
Archer wondered if others missed the station as much as he does.
“It’s missed I’m sure. It used to play the great music that was happening that summer, like Jimi Hendrix, the Doors and, of course, playing the heck out of the Beatles,” Archer said.
Archer recalled the days when people would stop by the station with their own music in hand – the 45 rpm version, not the CD.
“I still remember Gary Gardner – also with the Mustangs – bringing Hendrix’s 45 of “Purple Rain” to the station and my putting it on the turntable. That was a real mind blower,” said Archer.
Archer continues his career providing entertainment to others through his business, DAassociatesPR, promoting a recent concert to raise funds for human rights.
“In celebration of Woodstock and to raise funds to make people aware of human rights issues, we produced a concert on June 3, with Richie Havens, called Rock on for Rights. It took place at FDR State Park in Yorktown Heights, N.Y.,” said Archer.
Archer said Havens, a Woodstock-era musician, was “great and very personable.”
“He played all of his great hits and burned the strings off his guitar,” said Archer, who does public relations/marketing for events as part of his business.
For more information on the business, Archer said his Web site – which is currently being built – will be available soon at daassociatespr.com. He can also be reached via e-mail at daassociates@aol.com. Although unable to attend the reunion, Archer had one more thing to tell his classmates who will gather later this summer for their 40th reunion.
“Rock on,” said Archer.
