Field Days calendar
corrections
Some events in the Easton Field Days announcement found in last week-s Star-Herald were placed under the wrong day. Field Days occur July 5 through July 8. The Poker Run, Frog Jumping Contest, Frisbee-Throwing Contest, Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest, Skillet Throwing, State Police Canine Demo, Great Barn Yard Fun Run, the continuation of the High School Basketball Tournament, the American Legion’s Annual Bean Hole Bean Supper, “Lets Make a Deal” Game Show, and the Fireworks Display will all be held on Saturday, July 7, instead of Thursday as printed.
There have been new events added which will be fun, such as: the High School Basketball tournament, starting on Thursday evening 6 and 7:30 p.m.; the Art Show, Open House at the Science Center, ‘Noah’s Ark’ Build a Bear Workshop and a Family Outdoor Movie Night at 7 p.m all on Friday. The Community Breakfast will be put on from 6 until 8 a.m. at the Odd Fellows Hall on Saturday morning, and the parade will start at 10 a.m. with the line-up at Perry Drive. On Sunday everyone is invited to church services at the little Union Church in River de Chute at 9:30 a.m., and there will be a Community Singspiration held on the school grounds at 3 p.m.
The Easton High School Class of 1957 will be holding their 50th class reunion on July 6 and 7 which coincides with the annual Easton Field Days events. The group plans dinner at Slopes Restaurant in Presque Isle on Friday night and they will be riding in the Field Days Parade the next day. They plan to also attend the Legion’s Bean Supper Saturday night, to be followed by a class social and dance at the Easton Odd Fellows Hall. The class includes: Carl Clark; Elaine DeMerchant Walker, who was the secretary; Christina Driscoll Cyr; Jerry Flewelling; Judy Foren Wathen; Jim Hayden; Evelyn Holmes Stickney; Delores Keegan Woodworth, who was the treasurer; Stan Jordan; Gary Lynch; Loomis Scott; Glenda Stickney Hersey; Dan Wathen, who was the president of the class; and Mickey Perry. Deceased members are: Dell Turner, Sandra Wortman LaPointe and Russell LaPointe who was the vice president.  Hopefully there will be a good turnout.
The Easton Happy Days Senior Citizens’ Club met on June 28 with 16 members and one guest.  Following a potluck luncheon, speaker Aaron Giberson, funeral director of the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, spoke to the group  about end-of-life plans. He spoke on the Mortuary Trust, giving information that was new to many of the members, stating that the trust was a far better way to save for funeral expenses than a life insurance because every cent goes into the trust which then gathers interest. He also told them that the complete sum need not be paid all at once but could be added to as a person felt able to do. If more was put into the trust than the cost of the funeral, then the remainder would be returned to the deceased’s estate. He answered question from the group and left material for them to take home. The Mortuary Trust Fund for the next three years will have interest of 5 percent. After the speaker left. a short meeting was held. President Marie Hewitt informed the group that there would be a hotdog roast at the ATV club’s picnic grounds on July 26 at 11:30 a.m. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, July 12.
